New Code of Conduct

The UKBHC has published a new Code of Conduct which sets out the standards it expects of registered healthcare chaplains. You can download it here:

NHS in Wales adopts Standards

The NHS in Wales has adopted the UKBHC Standards and the Capabilities and Competences Framework  and published them with additional guidance. They are all available on this website.

NHS Chaplains mentioned in House of Lords debate

The Queen's Speech for the new session of parliament (June 2010) was debated in the House of Lord's and the Bishop of Chichester asked whether the Government valued chaplains as front-line staff. The short exchange is reported in the document below which you can download. 

Church of England publish HCC Review

The Church of England's review of the Hospital Chaplaincies Council (HCC) has been published and can be downloaded from this page or from the CoE's website. The UKBHC contributed to the review and looks forward to working constructively with the Church of England on the new agenda set out in the report.

New Position Paper

The UKBHC has published a position paper to clarify its relationship to Faith Communities and Belief Groups. You can read it here

New postgraduate progamme at Leeds Met Univeristy

A new postgraduate programme in healthcare chaplaincy starts in October 2009 at Leeds Metropolitan University designed by senior academics and experienced healthcare chaplains and with funded places for chaplains within the Yorkshire & Humber region.

The Association of Pastoral Supervisors and Educators is Launched

Hospital Chaplaincy Services are not only for religious patients

The BMJ publishes a case study from a chaplain which illustrates the beneficial input of chaplaincy to patients whose spirituality is not expressed through a faith tradition. See the full article at the BMJ online

NHS Scotland publish learning resource on Spiritual Care

NHS Education for Scotland have launched a helpful reference document for healthcare staff wanting to know more about spiritual care and for those who are educating staff. "Spiritual Care Matters" can be downloaded from the NES website.
